Location: Water St, Wyalusing, WI
The village of Wyalusing has a park on the river with a swimming beach and is home to Wyalusing State Park.
Wyalusing State Park is perched high above the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers. Native American peoples, fur traders and explorers made their way to and from the Mississippi River by traveling from Green Bay and down the Fox River to Portage, then crossing land to reach the Wisconsin River, which then took them west to the Mississippi River.
As you stand and look out over the Mississippi River at Wyalusing State Park, you’re looking over a maze of islands, channels and sloughs that look much like they did when explorers Marquette and Joliet first arrived here in 1673 and climbed to the top of these same bluffs.
In addition to fantastic views from vantage points over 500 feet above the two rivers, the 2,628-acre Wyalusing State Park includes a number of burial mounds, historical markers, campsites and an interpretive center. For paddlers, there’s also an excellent canoe trail that runs through the park’s many sloughs, perfect for viewing waterfowl and other birds and wildlife.
