MADISON, Wis. — The 115th Fighter Wing is thanking all of the organizations that have helped in recent weeks following the fatal crash of an F-16 jet.
Earlier this week, the Wisconsin National Guard leadership team flew to the Upper Peninsula to check on the team working at the crash site. In a Facebook post, the 115th Fighter Wing says a bald eagle flew overhead just before the helicopters landed.
The Fighter Wing says the eagle struck them as a sign that Capt. Durwood “Hawk” Jones, who died in the crash, was watching over them. The 37-year-old left behind a wife and two young children.
The 115th Fighter Wing resumed in-air operations earlier this week, a little more than one week after the crash that killed Jones on December 8th.
The United States Air Force is leading the investigation into the crash, which could take more than a year to complete.
