MADISON, Wis. — A Rock County jury has found two men guilty of endangering safety tied to their involvement in a shooting that killed a 21-year-old in March 2019.
Gregory A. Carter Jr. was found guilty of first-degree recklessly endangering safety while armed as a party to a crime, felony bail jumping, and misdemeanor bail jumping. Anthony L. Sims III was found guilty of recklessly endangering safety while armed as a party to a crime. Wisconsin Department of Justice officials announced the jury’s ruling Friday afternoon.
According to evidence shared a trial, the defendants set up a fight in Beloit on March 11, 2019 that ultimately led to the shooting death of 21-year-old Treron White. Two others were shot during the incident.
“Outrageous gun violence like this triple shooting takes lives from families and communities and devastates many more lives,” Attorney General Josh Kaul said. “Thank you to local law enforcement and the team at DOJ who worked together to hold the defendants accountable for the serious crimes of which they were convicted.”
The Beloit Police Department and Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory investigated the shooting. The trial was presided over by Judge Barbara McCrory.
Carter and Sims have a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 15 at 2 p.m. Carter faces a maximum sentence of 21.5 years of initial confinement and Sims faces a maximum sentence of 12.5 years of initial confinement.
