VERONA, Wis. — Local leaders are pushing the public to buy local in celebration of Independents Week, a week-long event to celebrate and support local businesses.
To celebrate the week-long campaign, Dane Buy Local, in conjunction with the American Independent Business Alliance, hosted a kick-0ff event Friday at the new JNJ Gifts and More location in Verona.
Dane Buy Local Executive Director Colin Murray said the week-long campaign is the perfect opportunity to support local businesses.
“Our local businesses make Dane County distinctive, different from anywhere else in the country,” Dane Buy Local Executive Director Colin Murray said. “Independents Week is an opportunity to celebrate the hardworking local entrepreneurs in Madison, Dane County, and all of South Central Wisconsin.”
To date, Dane County has made more than $29 million in Small Business Pandemic Support grants available to help struggling businesses amid the pandemic. The latest round of grants, which was approved in May, made $15 million available for local businesses.
“Dane Buy Local has been an incredible partner to our small business community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we thank them for their continued partnership in distributing Dane County’s Small Business Pandemic Support grants,” Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said. “As we gear up for July 4, let’s consider the ways in which we can continue to show support for our small businesses and local entrepreneurs. Celebrating Independents Week is yet another way we can do our part to help our local economy recover from the financial impacts of the past year.”
