Veterans from across the Badger state came together today in Milwaukee for a conversation about Afghanistan.
The War Memorial Center hosted a 90 minutes conference, which featured a panel of veterans who served in Afghanistan and Vietnam.
This event was meant as a form of healing for those veterans who are hurting as they watch the chaos taking place in the Middle East.
Afghanistan veteran and Army Captain, Jason Church, says the past week as been a horrendous one for many who served.
“It’s been a really hard week, it’s been a hard week for a lot of guys and gals who served over there. It is making relieve a lot of the stuff that I experienced there. In fact it was so much so that I began to look back on some of the things that I had long buried,” explain Church.
Church says he lost both of his legs exactly nine years ago today during a tour in Afghanistan. His worry, is on the those that must live under the control of the Taliban once again as he doesn’t believe the group has changed at all.
“I find it hard to believe. Seeing the things they have done to people…I can’t express into words on camera what these people are capable of doing to a fellow human,” said Church.
Today was the first of two events scheduled for conversation about Afghanistan at the War Memorial Center. The next confrontation is set for August 30th at noon.
