WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy who died of COVID-19 last year is set to be honored at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. this weekend.
Richard “Rick” Treadwell is one of 394 officers whose names will be added to the memorial. He is the only officer from Wisconsin who will be added this year.
Treadwell died on August 22, 2020, at the age of 61. He had served as a deputy for over 25 years.

182 of the officers who will be added to the memorial this year died of COVID-19-related complications.
In a Facebook post last year, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Treadwell served as a trainer and instructor.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial was dedicated in 1991 and honors federal, state, and local law enforcement who died in the line of duty.
The memorial features two marble walls, with the names of over 22,000 officers dating back to 1786 carved in.
Davis Buckley designed the memorial, which is updated yearly during National Police Week.
