MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services gave some tips on how to find trustworthy COVID-19 testing sites, and report concerns about other sites.
The move comes amid criticism of the company Center for COVID Control. The company, which has pop-up locations around Madison, paused operations earlier this month following complaints from customers.

Center for COVID Control received an “F” rating with the Better Business Bureau and is being investigated by the BBB in multiple states. On Tuesday, CBS News reported that the company’s headquarters in Rolling Meadows, Ill. was raided by the FBI.
“The quality and integrity of our testing activities across the state is critical to fighting this virus,” DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake said in a statement Wednesday.”
You can issue a complaint about a specific testing site to the DHS Office of Inspector General by calling 877-865-3432 or online. Complaints include incorrect, missing, or fake results, insurance billing, and testing fraud.
DHS officials encourage anybody seeking a test to find a site listed on the state’s webpage, health care providers, and local or tribal health departments.
If you do choose an unfamiliar testing site, here are a few guidelines to follow:
- Don’t pay cash
- Don’t give out personal information like a social security number or drivers license
- Ask when you’ll get your results, and how
- Ask if the clinic is CLIA certified
- Confirm that your results will be sent to state and federal agencies
- Buy FDA-authorized COVID-19 at-home tests
