MADISON, Wis. — Local dairy companies received some financial assistance Wednesday, Governor Evers announced.
19 companies across Wisconsin received a DATCP Dairy Processor Grant. The money is meant to improve profitability and sustain each company’s long-term viability.
“Wisconsin’s dairy industry is not only a vital part of our economy, but it’s core to our Wisconsin heritage and who we are as a state,” Evers said. “I am glad to be awarding these funds today to ensure our dairy processors can continue to grow their businesses.”
Local companies that received grants include:
- Alpine Slicing and Cheese, Monroe ($15,000)
- The company intends to relocate and expand its plant.
- Brunkow Cheese, Darlington ($18,500)
- Brunkow will make improvements in order to sell its products to larger distributors and wholesalers.
- Decatur Swiss Co-op, Brodhead ($25,000)
- The company is developing a new shredding process for retail cheese.
- Landmark Creamery, Belleville ($22,000)
- Landmark will expand its plant to help teach community members about agriculture, farming, and cheese making.
- Muscoda Protein Products ($28,000)
- The company will conduct a study on anaerobic wastewater treatment.
- Specialty Cheese Company, Reeseville ($20,000)
- Specialty will develop a reverse osmosis system to help make low-protein whey.
- UW-Platteville ($10,000)
- The school will expand retail and educational opportunities for students working at Pioneer Sweets.
- Wisconsin Pride, Mauston ($25,000)
- The company will expand its facility and install a brine system.
