ARLINGTON, Wis. — Sen. Tammy Baldwin and the U.S. Department of Agriculture hosted a roundtable event in Columbia County Friday morning to talk with farmers about mental health.
The event at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station focused on mental health resources available to farmers as well as efforts to expand availability.
Baldwin said there is still a need for additional resources and continuous funding for those that were put in place as part of the 2018 Farm Bill. She added it’s her top priority for the next farm bill to continue those provisions, which she originally introduced as a standalone bill but were later included with the larger bill.
“What’s so valuable to me is to hear — when we’re talking about programs in Washington, D.C., and appropriate funding levels and that sort of thing — to hear what’s happening when those resources actually get to rural communities and the work that we envisioned is being done and producing really positive results,” she said.
The event comes at the end of Mental Health Awareness Month.
