MADISON, Wis. — A man charged in a deadly shooting on Madison’s east side is being held on $1 million cash bond for his alleged involvement in the November killing.
Chabris Link, 32, is charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide in connection with a Nov. 17, 2021 shooting that killed 24-year-old Eric Ranson. His co-defendant, 33-year-old Justin Burage, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime.
Madison police said earlier this year that Link and Burage were arrested in connection with the shooting back in April. Link was in custody in Illinois until Monday when he was booked into the Dane County Jail.
During his initial appearance in Dane County Court on Thursday, a court commissioner ordered he be held on $1 million cash bond.
If he posts bond, Link must avoid all contact with Burage and the victim’s family. Link would be barred from possessing any dangerous weapons, using or possessing any drugs without a valid prescription, and would be required to stay at home except for court-related purposes or an emergency.
Link’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 28.
