MADISON, Wis. — The Madison community is continuing to work together to offer support for three young children left behind after their parents died in a murder-suicide last weekend.
A GoFundMe fundraiser set up earlier this week by friends and neighbors of Jessica and Jason Wray to help pay for funeral costs and support the couple’s children had an original goal of $10,000, but has now seen more than $100,000 in donations come in.
“These kids are surrounded by so much love but growing up after losing both parents will take a lot more. Please help in any way you can. Every little bit helps,” the fundraiser description reads.
Some of the 978 donations as of Friday morning are for as little as $20, while others are for thousands of dollars — including one anonymous donor leaving $5,000 for the family.
Organizers say all of the money raised will go directly to the guardians of the children.
“It’s a very tight-knit neighborhood. It’s a neighborhood where the kids play outside a lot, run around together,” Luke Hoffman, a close family friend and neighbor, told News 3 Now earlier this week. “The families take care of each other.”
If you or someone you know would like to donate, you can do so here.
Madison police say they are investigating the Wray deaths as a case of domestic violence, and believe Jason Wray killed Jessica Wray before taking his own life by walking into traffic on the Interstate on Sunday. Police have not provided information on a possible motive.
