A woman and a horse were killed and a man was injured after a semi truck rear-ended an Amish buggy outside of Darlington early Monday morning. Deputies and paramedics were called to Highway 81 just east of Burke Road on Monday at around 3:10 a.m. after the crash was reported. An investigation found that two siblings, 30 year old Samuel King and 19 year old Fannie King, both of Darlington, were traveling east in a horse drawn buggy on Highway 81 and were struck from behind by a semi-truck driven by 39-year-old Pavel Ivanovich Gritskan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A report says both siblings were ejected from the buggy. Samuel King was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County before being flown to University Hospital in Madison by UW MedFlight. Fannie King was pronounced dead at the scene. The horse pulling the buggy was also killed in the crash. The buggy was destroyed and the semi had moderate damage. Gritskan, the semi driver, was uninjured. Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said the buggy was equipped with LED lights. Investigators are working to determine if the lights were operable at the time of the crash.
