Woman Sentenced For Striking Another Woman With Bottle

A woman has been sentenced to two years of probation for hitting another woman in the head with an empty bottle in a Dubuque bar. 21 year old Marlee Basten of Dubuque was given the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury. The sentencing order from District Associate Judge Mark T. Hostager states that Basten also must pay a $430 fine and 15% surcharge.  A report states that police responded January 15 to Sportsters Pub Central Avenue to investigate a report of an assault that had happened earlier in the day. Bar staff told police Basten began yelling at another woman that afternoon while both were patrons at the bar.  Surveillance video shows Basten swinging the bottle from behind the woman, striking her on the back of the head. The woman suffered a concussion.
