Three people have been charged following a “lengthy” animal neglect investigation in Iowa County. 39-year-old Carie Reed and 44-year-old Johnny Reed both of Rewey, each face 34 charges — 17 counts of negligently providing improper animal sanitation standards and 17 counts of intentionally or negligently providing improper indoor animal shelter-ventilation. An arrest warrant has been issued for another man, 50-year-old Gregory Shaw of Mineral Point, on one count of each charge. Shaw is also wanted on warrants for second-degree sexual assault of a child and fourth-degree sexual assault. The sheriff’s office said deputies and social services conducted a welfare check on a home and found garbage, glass, animal feces, and “thick layers” of cockroaches and flies. Officials removed 17 animals — 11 cats and six dogs — from the home and took them to the Iowa County Humane Society for medical treatment and housing. All but one have been surrendered for adoption, the release said. The Reeds are set to make their initial court appearances on Dec. 19.
