On Friday, just after 4:00pm, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle head on crash on County Highway H in Smelser Township. An initial investigation showed that 19 year old Alana Duggan of Galena was driving in a 2016 Dodge Ram. 16 year old Ethan Griffin of Kieler, was going East on County Highway H in a 2016 GMC and began to cross the center line. Duggan observed Griffin’s vehicle continue into her lane as she began braking. Griffin’s vehicle struck Duggan head on in the West bound lane. After colliding, both vehicles slid into the north ditch line. A trailer being pulled by Duggan was blocking the West bound lane. The front of both vehicles were locked together and caught fire. The Duggan’s and bystanders removed Griffin from his burning vehicle. Griffin was taken from the scene by UW Medflight with serious injuries. 47 year old Dustan Duggan of Dubuque was a passenger in the Dodge truck and was taken to Southwest Health Center in Platteville by Platteville EMS. Griffin’s truck, Duggan’s truck, and a 2011 Mercedes Benz being trailered by Duggan all had heavy damage and were towed from the scene by Donnies Tire and Tow and Guys Trucking. Assisting at the scene was the Cuba City Fire Department, the Dickeyville Fire Department, Platteville EMS, Cuba City Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
