The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released photos of a woman suspected of cashing fake checks and opening a bank account under a false name. Officials said that on Jan. 11 the woman opened a savings account at Woodford State Bank in Monroe. She allegedly used a fake Georgia driver’s license to open the account, and told tellers that she was a traveling nurse. On Jan. 20, between 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., the same woman allegedly cashed fake checks totaling over $11,000 at Woodford State Bank branches in New Glarus, Blanchardville, Argyle, Darlington and South Wayne. Officials said the woman arrived at each bank on foot, but is believed to have been a passenger in a white four-door sedan. If you have any information on the incidents, contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office at 608-776-4870.
