On Wednesday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35/133 and US Highway 18 around 11:30pm. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a blue Toyota Corolla with heavy front-end damage in the ditch and a Silver Chevrolet Trailblazer with heavy driver-side damage in the front lawn of a residence at the intersection. The driver of the Toyota was identified as 47 year old Jason Von Bruchhaeuser of Dixon, Illinois. The driver of the Trailblazer was identified as 21 year old Olivia Blum of Glen Haven. An investigation determined that Von Bruchhaeuser was northbound on Highway 35/133, approaching the intersection with Highway 18. As he was approaching the intersection, Blum was traveling west on Highway 18. Von Bruchhaeuser failed to yield from the stop sign and struck Blum’s vehicle. It was also determined that tiredness was a contributing factor in the crash. Blum was trapped by the damage to her driver’s door but was not pinned. Blum complained of neck pain, and Von Bruchhaeuser complained of ankle and leg pain. West Grant EMS responded to the scene, and Blum was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Vonbruchhaeuser will be issued citations for Failure to Stop at a Stop sign and Inattentive Driving. The West Grant EMS service, Bloomington Fire Department, and B & M Auto assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
