Menards in Platteville has received over $500,000 in federal funding to construct new charging stations in its parking lot on Progressive Parkway. According to a release from the office of Governor Tony Evers, the project is one of 53 sites selected statewide for the funds. The money come from the federal government, but were advertised and allocated through the state Department of Transportation. The company will provide a 20% match, equaling roughly $134,000 for the Menards project. In return, the company will receive just over $505,000 in federal funding to put toward constructing fast charging electric vehicle stations. The funding comes from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, a program formed under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. So far, Wisconsin has allocated $23 million of the $78 million it is expected to receive over the next five years through the program.
