The trial against a Dubuque man accused of killing his mother will take place this summer after a judge ruled he is competent to stand trial. 28-year-old Tyler Dazey, is charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with first-degree murder in relation to the January death of his mother, 46-year-old Jennifer Dazey. His trial is slated to begin July 9 at the Dubuque County Courthouse. Dazey has undergone two psychological evaluations since his Jan. 18 arrest. The first was completed in February and found he was incompetent to stand trial on account of several untreated mental health conditions preventing him from assisting in his own defense. The case subsequently was stayed, and Dazey was sent to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center for additional evaluation. There, a psychiatrist ruled he was competent to stand trial.
