After the unexpected closure of Platteville’s swimming pool last month, city officials have begun deliberating on the future of the facility. However, given the condition of the 80-year old facility, Platteville city manager Clint Langreck stressed that the city pool will likely not reopen this summer or the next. City staff had intended to open the Platteville Family Aquatic Center on May 27 for the summer season, but the 80-year-old facility experienced significant cracking and displacement on its walls, floors and decking when officials filled it in anticipation of the summer season, leaving it inoperable. Langreck stressed that it has not been decided whether the city will pursue either repairing the existing pool facility or if it will aim to build a new pool entirely. The city must also figure out how to fund whatever option is chosen.
