Two men charged in connection with an assault in southwest Wisconsin are now accused of a hate crime. Brothers 21 year old Christopher Drapeau and 20 year old Anthony Drapeau are both charged in Grant County Circuit Court with battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. Charges were filed against the pair in connection with an August 18th incident outside Anthony Drapeau’s home in Jamestown Township, and the case was sent to Grant County District Attorney Ian Mickelson for review. Per recent court filings, Mickelson added a hate-crime enhancement to each charge levied against the two brothers. Wisconsin does not have a specific hate-crime law, but the enhancer can be added to charges for increased penalties. The charges relate to an early morning disturbance outside a party at Anthony Drapeau’s home during which both brothers assaulted another man while saying racial slurs and other derogatory comments.
