The Dubuque Regional Humane Society has received a sustaining donation to support its working cat program. Noelle Chesney, executive director of the organization, said the program will now be called the Dr. Peter and Ginger Sakas Working Cat Program in recognition of the Sakas family’s donation. Chesney said the donors wish to keep the amount of the gift confidential. A press release states that working cats are healthy cats available at no cost for community members seeking natural pest control. The cats may be used in barns, warehouses, churches, factories, dairy farms and other locations. Adopters must provide food, water, shelter and any necessary veterinary care to the cats. Since the program launched in 2018, nearly 500 working cats have been adopted.
