Two cited following Smelser accident

On Monday, December 9, 43-year-old Eric Nicklaus of Cuba City, was traveling east on County Highway H near Alt Rd., in Smelser, when he stated he fell asleep. Nicklaus’ vehicle veered off the road, and struck a power pole causing power lines to fall onto the roadway. As the Deputy was investigating the crash, he learned Nicklaus had a revoked driver’s license. Nicklaus was issued a criminal summons for Operating after Revocation and a citation for Inattentive Driving. The truck’s owner, 48-year-old Dustan Duggan, of Dubuque, was also cited for Permitting an Unauthorized Person to drive. Cuba City Fire Department, Cuba City Police Department, Automotion Towing, and Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative assisted at the scene.
