Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation reported on Wednesday it is conducting an officer involved investigation in Grant County after a man injured himself while in custody. According to the DOJ, Fennimore Police Department officers took a man into custody at a residence in the 1500 block of 2nd Street in the City of Fennimore. Authorities said the man was a part of an ongoing investigation. While he was in police custody, authorities said the man sustained self-inflected injuries from an edged weapon. No lethal force was used by law enforcement, the DOJ reported. Aid was given immediately to the subject, and he was taken to a local hospital. He was then flown to a La Crosse County hospital. Per agency’s policy, the involved officer is on administrative duty. Officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras. DCI is leading the investigation. Wisconsin State Patrol was among several agencies who helped with the investigation. Authorities said DCI is continuing to review evidence.
