Bella Ramsey, the non-binary star of The Last of Us, disclosed their autism diagnosis, describing it as “freeing.” Diagnosed while filming the first season, Ramsey’s journey toward diagnosis was prompted by a crew member’s assumption and led to a formal assessment. “My experience of moving through the world is as an autistic person,” they said. “There’s no reason for people not to know.” While embracing their autism openly and with self-acceptance, Ramsey says the labels related to gender and sexuality “do not feel comfy for me in any capacity.” Ramsey is preparing for the upcoming season of The Last of Us, where they will reprise their role as Ellie alongside Pedro Pascal.
