Leaders of organizations driving the Envision 2030 planning effort for community development in the Dubuque area officially kicked off the project Wednesday, stressing the breadth of public input they hope to receive in the coming months. Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering on the effort, with the help of other area nonprofits and motivated teams of volunteers. The Envision 2030 initiative aims to improve the community for a new generation of residents, as did the substantially successful Envision 2010, developed in 2005. Envision 2030 is rooted in local successes that stemmed from the planning sessions 20 years ago — the revitalization of the Historic Millwork District, the formation of Crescent Community Health Center, recent expansions to library services, area trails and wireless access and more. Area residents also can also submit ideas at envision2030.org, via social media, email, or mail. The submission period ends May 31. Envision 2030 also will host a “Night of Ideas” public forum on April 17.
