A Boscobel man will spend more than 7 years in federal prison after reaching a plea deal in a northeast Iowa court. The US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa reports 33-year-old Todd Groom was sentenced recently. Groom pled guilty to possession of firearms by a prohibited person in connection to an incident in Clermont, Iowa, last fall. While officials with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office were executing a search warrant, they found two firearms in a backpack that belonged to Groom. Authorities say Groom had four prior felony convictions and also admitted to dealing meth. Following his 7 years in federal prison, Groom will also serve 3 years of supervised release.
