MADISON, Wis. – In Tenney Park, the River Alliance of Wisconsin brought back a creative event to celebrate one of the area’s urban rivers.
Fools’ Flotilla allowed people to bring canoes, kayaks, and other floatable objects to the Yahara River. There, people could dress in costumes and float down the river in a boat parade.
“Fools’ Flotilla has been happening for many years in Madison,” said Stacy Harbaugh, the River Alliance Communications Director. “We’re proud to host this event to have people gather and enjoy the Yahara River.”
Harbaugh said there were about 230 people registered for Sunday’s event on the water. She added that the event is important for people in the area to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the natural wonders of our area.
“We really believe that when people come to the river and experience it and enjoy it, then they want to protect it,” said Harbaugh. “It’s a great way to bring people together, have fun and enjoy our water.”
The event is a part of the annual Marquette Waterfront Festival. The Marquette Neighborhood Association’s Waterfront Festival is celebrating its 33rd year of live music, family events, vendors from local businesses, artists and restaurants, and craft beer and wine tents.
