WINDSOR, Wis. — A vehicle reported stolen from a south Madison hotel Thursday morning was later found at the same hotel in Windsor where a deputy from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office fatally shot a person Thursday night, but officials have not confirmed whether the two are connected.
The Madison Police Department said officers got a call about a stolen vehicle at the Super 8 hotel in the 1600 block of West Beltline Highway at 6:33 a.m. The victim reportedly told police the vehicle had been stolen and that the keys were likely left inside.
Later in the day, deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle at the Super 8 hotel on Lake Circle in Windsor where the shooting happened, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes’ blog.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the shooting happened around 6:10 p.m. at the hotel. The person the deputy shot was taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The deputy is on administrative assignment per department policy. No law enforcement officers were injured.
Details remain scarce about what led the deputy to pull the trigger.
Officials have not identified the man the deputy shot, but family members identified him as 46-year-old Quantaze Campbell.
The Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the incident.
