Testimony has begun in a first-degree murder trial against a man accused of fatally shooting a young Dubuque resident. 32 year old Keywani Evans of Freeport is charged in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in relation to the fatal 2022 shooting of 20-year-old Taiwon Jackson Jr. According to a report, officers responded to the 1900 block of Central Avenue at about 7 p.m. on June 4, 2022. Jackson was found on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The trial began Tuesday with an all-day jury selection process that rounded out Wednesday ahead of attorneys’ opening statements. Assistant Dubuque County Attorney Ryan Gallagher presented prosecutors’ opening remarks while attorney Les Blair spoke for the defense.
