A Monroe woman accused of poisoning her husband’s morning coffee has been sentenced. According to a report, 51 year old Amanda Chapin was sentenced to three years in the Wisconsin State Prison system and three years of extended supervision. The court also ordered that she have no contact with her husband or his family. Chapin previously pleaded no contest to first-degree recklessly endangering safety after prosecutors modified the charge from attempted first-degree intentional homicide. A Lafayette County judge accepted her plea and found her guilty. Chapin’s husband, 70 year old Dr. Gary Chapin, remembers drinking his coffee she brought him the morning of August 21, 2022 then waking up in the hospital. The criminal complaint stated she poisoned him with anti-seizure and euthanasia medication he used on dogs for his veterinary practice. The couple got married in March of 2022. Following the wedding, Amanda Chapin forged the signature of one of her husband’s children on a power-of-attorney document, then demanded her husband amend his house deed so she would get the home if he died. A complaint says she poisoned her husband for the first time less than three weeks after the quit claim deed on the house was authorized.
