Saturday, Army Corporal Robert P. Raess was laid to rest in Dodgeville 70 years after being declared missing in the Korean War. Governor Tony Evers had signed an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Corporal Raess. During the Korean War, Corporal Raess served in the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, and 2nd Infantry Division. In 1956, the Army recovered unidentified remains from 12 military cemeteries in South Korea, which were later buried in Honolulu at the National Memorial Cemetery. Corporal Raess’ remains were identified by scientists in March.
