A Minnesota man was convicted in federal court for distributing cocaine in Dubuque that ultimately led to a woman’s death. 39 year old Michael Knight of Brooklyn Park, Minn., was convicted in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids of one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine within 1,000 feet of multiple parks and schools in Dubuque. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Knight also pleaded guilty to charges related to him personally giving a woman cocaine on Feb. 14, 2021. That woman went home, used the cocaine and died. Knight said he was part of a group distributing cocaine in the Dubuque area by getting it from someone who brought it from Chicago. Then, the group — including Knight — would distribute it to customers in Dubuque. Knight faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a possible life sentence, a $6 million fine and up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.
