U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., urged a crowd in Dubuque on Friday to support reversing high-income and corporate tax cuts passed under former President Donald Trump and to vote for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris at the polls this year. Sanders joined local union leaders and fair housing advocates in calling on the federal government to hold large corporations accountable for decisions he said harm local residents. The remarks came after recent rounds of layoffs at John Deere Dubuque Works and after residents of Table Mound Mobile Home Park said rents have doubled since the park was purchased by an out-of-state company. The 2020 Democratic presidential primary candidate’s appearance before a crowd of 200 at Dubuque’s Grand River Center is the highest-profile surrogate for Harris to stump in the area ahead of the November election.
