Katy Perry is set to join an all-female crew for the next civilian space flight on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket, alongside CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King and Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez. Blue Origin announced the details of their upcoming 11th human space flight, dubbed mission NS-31, with an Instagram reel posted on Thursday (February 27). Sánchez will lead the team “on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come.” Perry’s participation raises questions about the mission’s timing, as the pop superstar’s Lifetimes World Tour starts on April 23 in Mexico City, before trekking through North America, Australia, and Europe, finally wrapping up on November 11 in Madrid. The NS-31 team will also include former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and entrepreneur Kerianne Flynn, marking the first all-female space crew since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo flight in 1963.
