MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters are investigating after crews responded to Madison’s east side Saturday for a report of a semi truck on fire.
While in route, crews received more information indicating a total of three semi trucks were on fire. When they arrived at the scene, crews worked to douse the flames with water and foam.
Fire officials said crews at the scene used more than 500 gallons of water and 31 gallons of firefighting foam while fighting the fire.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Once the fire was extinguished, Madison Fire Department officials notified the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources about the use of firefighting foam, in accordance with department protocol. Firefighting foam is typically used in fuel-based or vehicle fires. The MFD switched to a PFAS-free foam in 2019 following concerns for the environmental impact of the substance.
